Palm Sunday is the last sunday before Easter.  It marks the beginning of Holy week, and the day of Jesus’s triumphant return to Jerusalem, where palms were laid in his path. Churches distribute palms or sometimes pussy willow on palm sunday, and these are what are used for the ashes for the next year’s Ash Wednesday.
