The Board of Governors
The operations of St Mary’s Preschool are overseen by a Board of Governors, made up of preschool whānau, Star Of The Sea Parish representatives, a St Mary’s Preschool Staff represenative, a St Mary’s School representative and the Senior Teacher from St Mary’s Preschool.
The Board meets once a month, usually on the third Thursday of the month.
The Board of Governors has an important strategic role to play in the management of the preschool. This is to assist the Senior Teacher and staff in providing the best possible education and care for all of the tamariki who attend our preschool.
Governors bring their experience and life skills to this task.
In everything they do, they should aim to raise expectations of what can be achieved by all tamariki and staff and strengthen the involvement of parents and the wider community.
This involves
- setting the preschool’s vision and aims
- establishing and maintaining the preschool’s ethos
- monitoring and evaluating preschool’s financial performance
- promoting self evaluation to sustain preschool’s improvement
